Computers are changing healthcare left and right.
These machines have improved access to health information… enhanced surgery and other treatments… and even made simple things like booking your next annual easier.
Now, we know there is another way that using your computer can improve your health.
A new study shows that using your computer for a certain activity can help stop ANY disease… from the comfort of your home.
In fact, research shows it can even SINK your risk of strokes, heart disease, cognitive decline, and even early death, especially if you’re a senior.
It’s no secret that the internet can take you to almost any destination.
But when you take a virtual trip to a museum… you’re safeguarding your health!
For the new research, scientists from the University of Montreal split a group of 106 seniors in half. One group did a 45-minute weekly virtual museum visit to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) for three months and the other did not.
At the end, the virtual visits group experienced significant improvements in their:
Social isolation,
Well-being,
Quality of life,
And frailty assessment score.
And these are all factors that can help prevent disease in seniors.
But this is especially true of improving social isolation.
Other studies show that socially isolated seniors experience increased risk for many diseases, including stroke, heart disease, mental decline, and even premature death.
So, this means getting out more – even if virtually – can help you feel better AND stop disease!
Even better? Previous research shows that museums have positively impacted senior health…
In 2018, the MMFA launched a program called “Thursdays at the Museum.” They found that art-based activities can improve older people’s well-being, quality of life, and overall health.
With results like these, I’m definitely going to schedule some virtual trips to the museum today!
