(GoHealthier.com)

It is well known that healthy blood sugars are an important part of our overall health.

We see articles about blood sugars, videos, and we even see what happens when a person’s blood sugars are not healthy.

When our body is functioning in a healthy way, we generally have a healthy blood sugar level.

That means being active, eating healthy, no smoking, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption.

When we live a less than healthy lifestyle and gain excess fat, eat poorly, etc., our body starts to have a harder time managing the sugars we have floating around in our blood.

This leads to a host of possible health issues, and it starts with our blood sugars becoming consistently elevated.

Normal healthy blood sugars means we are converting the carbohydrates we are consuming to glucose and use for energy.

Our bodies are also releasing the proper amount of insulin to take those sugars that are not used in our blood to store them as fat to be used at a later time.

When we have an excess amount of sugars floating around in our blood, it is called hyperglycemia.   This excess sugar over time will usually lead to insulin resistance and Type II diabetes.

What happens when we have unhealthy blood sugar levels?

It usually starts with those lifestyle decisions I mentioned earlier.  It then leads to what it called Metabolic Syndrome.

This is a condition that consists of a group of symptoms.  If you have just one of these symptoms it doesn’t mean you have Metabolic Syndrome or Type 2 diabetes.  What it does mean is that you have a higher risk for develop diabetes and that your blood sugar levels are probably not as healthy as they could be.

If someone doesn’t address these subtle signs right away, they could lead to more serious health problems.

This is something we all have to pay attention to because it has been published that in the 21st century, diabetes could be one of the largest epidemics to date.

There are around 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes every single year.  It is also projected that by the year 2050 there will be 1 in 3 Americans diagnosed with diabetes.
