For the new research, scientists from the University of Barcelona in Spain split a group of healthy participants into three groups. One added a daily serving of peanut butter to their diet, one added a daily serving of roasted peanuts, and the last one got a placebo for six months. All participants had their heart markers measured during the trial.
At the end, the researchers found that the peanut products groups had improved heart health markers, including those linked to reducing blood clots and improving blood flow – two key ways to prevent heart attack.
Peanuts and peanut butter are so good for your heart because they contain powerful compounds – called polyphenols – that help balance the specific type of inflammation that can lead to heart issues.
In fact, other studies show that peanuts can help you fight stroke, heart disease, and death from cardiovascular events.

Go grab a handful of roasted peanuts and enjoy!
Or take a heaping spoonful of peanut butter and add it to your oatmeal or eat it with a sliced apple or banana.
Just one word of caution…
When choosing peanut butter, be sure to get a natural variety with NO added oils or sugars – you’re looking for ground peanuts. These natural varieties will give you all the heart-healthy nutrition you want without any nasty fillers.
And it’s the same idea when going for peanuts. Find a dry roasted variety that uses only sea salt for seasoning.
