In a new study, researchers gave 66 healthy women 57g of Jarlsberg cheese for six weeks. During the study, all participants were monitored for bone health markers.
At the end, the scientists found that consuming Jarlsberg significantly increased the participants’ levels of two key bone health markers – vitamin K2 and osteocalcin.
Both of these compounds play a crucial role in maintaining bone health, as well as in the production of new bone cells.
In fact, the authors of the study report that Jarlsberg is so good for bone health that it could help prevent osteopenia – the stage of bone thinning before osteoporosis.
